Hero is great, and Tarantino did nothing but change a few maps into the alphabet rather than Chinese characters so we could read them in the movie. It came out in 2000 in China I think. Chinese hate it because its too 'western' (ie you don't know what's happening right from the beginning). The director is Zhang Yimou who also did 'raise the red lantern' one of the most famous chinese movies. NOte chinese movies often have either very subtle plots (arty) or way over the top plots with odd humour.
Well I'm just looking forward to finally seeing hero, though I'm going to have to be carefull in my review, 'cause I'm pretty sure you'll both have something to say!! :-)
I read somewhere that Tarantino discovered Hero yonks ago, but hung onto it until well after he'd made and marketed the Kill Bill movies.

ReplyDeleteZhang Yimou seems incapable of producing a happy movie (and I'm a fan).
